For some time, I’ve been meaning to check out Prince Edward Flower Market. And what better day to do so than when there’s good company.
A botanist I never was, but that didn’t stop my heart from fluttering at the sight of a street blooming with floras of all shapes, sizes and colors. Mom will be thrilled here I am sure.
As with most things at a local market, the flowers here are known by their fanciful sounding Cantonese names. Initial enthusiastic attempts at figuring which is what fizzled out soon enough. Crysanthemums of every imaginable varieties, gorgeous Cymbidium orchids, roses, lilies, freesias, carnations and many more- all these at an awfully attractive wholesale price.
What with the year end festive season, Christmas plants of all kinds are readily available here. Poinsettias in red, pinkish, yellow hues, live pine trees ranging from the huge to the mini, potted and fresh holly. Everything looked so Christmassy and pretty. For as little as HKD10 a small pot, I couldn’t resist laying hands on one of these Christmas flowers. It’s right next to the tree now, isn’t it pretty?
