From around 32 weeks on, I officially feel pregnant.
All of a sudden, my belly seems to explode and I can feel the skin being stretched thin. The lower abdomen feels tight and uncomfortable and my pelvis area hurts whenever I lift my legs, change a sleeping position or get up from the seat. I’ve not gain that much weight throughout but I feel every single pound when I’m moving around! These days, I’d get pins and needles in my feet from standing too long or just cooking a meal.
Thankfully, I still manage a decent sleep despite having to sleep on my left (I’m a back sleeper) and wake up to go to the toilet several times in the middle of the night. The only challenge was getting, or should i say rolling out of the bed.
Fetal movements are in overdrive too. Sometimes, Baby DZ’s strong jabs and kicks cause occasional spasms of pain which leaves me feeling breathless; other times, it feels as if I’m receiving an internal massage with the wriggling and stretching that goes on inside. For a few weeks now, DZ seems to like camping out on my right side a lot, pushing so close to the outside of my belly, causing it to look lopsided and feels rock-hard. I wonder if this is what they called Braxton Hicks contractions? Hmm.
On the prep front, we’ve accomplished quite a fair bit the last 2 weeks. I’d dare say we’re more or less done for now so the previous sense of restlessness has somewhat abated. We’re also more than halfway through the parentcraft class that we signed up for. Timing wise, things seem to be well on track.
Finally, we’ve also chosen a name which we will share when the baby arrives. Come to think of it, we actually decided on the name a few months back and I was pleasantly surprised how straightforward the process turned out to be.
3 more weeks of baking left to do. Let the countdown begins! Oh Baby DZ, your Daddy and I are really excited to meet you!
