15 days of Chinese New Year came and went. And here are some more pics of the preparation and celebration.
A pair of simple couplets my Mom bought which I simply pasted it on our front door.
Before I got married and have a place of my own, I never quite understood the fuss my Mom made over spring cleaning, decorating the house and cooking up a feast for CNY. Some 30 years later and, lo and behold, guess who followed in her footsteps? I was told that Grandma was just like that too!
Last year, my parents bought us a bunch of tall pussy willows which we placed in a beautiful oriental vase gifted by my father on the floor. This year, I decided to keep things simple and got some refreshing bamboo plants, put them in a clear vase and well out of reach from my little explorer…
Which is why he was esctatic when I brought the vase and basket of mandarin oranges down for him to inspect. He walked around the plant cautiously at first, as if to determine its safe to go near it, before breaking out into a mischievious grin. The 5 minutes or so he was circling and playing with the ‘props’ was just about enough time for me to snap away.
Cheeks I love to smother with kisses..
General concensus is that DZ looks more like Mommy than Daddy, especially his expression when he is concentrating hard on things. Going through this series of photos, even I am amazed at just how much he is a spitting image of me when I was his age! I vaguely remember a photo of myself wearing traditional Chinese garb sitting on a floor playing with a teddy, I really should go dig it out one of these days…
This is the first CNY that DZ is aware of what’s going on around. He would clasp his little hands and bob them up and down– his version of “Gong Xi Gong Xi”– when asked and would reach out gamely for any ang pows that were presented to him.
In his second set of tradional Chinese wear which Poh Poh bought for him while holidaying in Vietnam, and having a ball of a time (pun intended) at Gong Gong Poh Poh’s house.
Some shots of kiddos collecting ang pows.
Grandma and grandson series.
Family pics in various permutations.
3rd year in a row and now a firmly established CNY tradition to take whole family pic on the sofa now.
初三拜年 at 何老师’s place. It’s been ages since many of us last visited and it was a nice gathering indeed. Given that many of us live nearby, we should really do this on an annual basis.
Finally, a play date on the eighth day of CNY with the gang. A very eventful CNY indeed!
